World Cup Draw
December 4, 2009 – 5:22 pmIf you want to understand the world, it helps to know how they play.
Today the Soccer World Cup’s final draw solidified the bracket for the 32 teams. The term “world cup” was #5 on the Google Trends list this afternoon and 10 out of the top 30 search terms were related to it.
You might prefer to watch (American) football bowl games, the Super Bowl, and the World Series, but if you want an easy inroad to a conversation with an international neighbor, ask them what they think about their country’s seeding in the World Cup. (Better yet, ask them about Ireland’s “unlucky” exit from World Cup qualification.)
You might just find a friend and wonderful opportunity to build a redemptive relationship for the sake of the gospel. Care about them by caring about what they care about (c.f. Phil 2:3).

BTW, the World Cup starts June 11, 2010. You have 187 days to work on inviting your international friends to your World Cup party!
