M Trivia 1.3: Answer

September 1, 2009 – 9:11 am

One feature that will frequently be included in the new MM Express email update is M Trivia, a missions-related trivia question that will sharpen missions knowledge and give the opportunity to win free books.

From the correct answers that are emailed to tim@missionsmandate.org by Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., a winner will be chosen at random. The winner will receive a free book. The correct answer to the M Trivia challenge will be posted the same Tuesday morning.

The M Trivia challenge for MM Express 1.3: “Luther Wishard was one of the three men who helped organize the Mount Hermon Conference, which initiated the Student Volunteer Movement. With which organization did Wishard serve as a full-time staff member?”

The correct answer: the YMCA. As a result of his position as leader of the newly formed Intercollegiate YMCA Movement,

Wishard was in a better position than any other single person to shape and direct the nascent intercollegiate movement. It is therefore quite significant…that Wishard had a profound dedication to the missionary cause.

As a result of his position of influence, Luther Wishard played a strategic role in the advancement of the Student Volunteer Movement. For more information about the SVM and Luther Wishard, read our MM posts, browse this helpful summary, read Wallstrom’s book (see below), or read our book For the Sake of His Name (especially the first two chapters).

Out of the correct answers submitted, one winner was selected. They have been notified via email and will receive a free copy of Timothy Wallstrom’s The Creation of the Student Movement to Evangelize the World.
