National Pastor’s Perspective of Sub-Saharan Christianity

July 7, 2009 – 9:11 pm

A few months ago Mark Dever (pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church and leader of 9 Marks ministry) interviewed Conrad Mbewe. Conrad is the pastor of Kabwata Baptist Church in Kabwata, Zambia. He blogs at A Letter from Kabwata.

As the 9Marks page denotes Conrad “provides a firsthand look at the growth of biblical Christianity in his part of the world.”

Listen to the mp3 audio of the interview.

In the 44th minute, Pastor Conrad answers Dever’s question “are there many Muslims in Zambia?”, explaining that Islam hasn’t penetrated the central portion of Africa as it has the coastal areas.

Pastor Conrad also provides a summary of Christianity in several African nations:

  • Malawi
  • Ethiopia
  • Zimbabwe
  • South Africa
  • Nigeria

Mark and Conrad conclude with a discussion of what it means to impact a community through gospel-centered ministry, instead of attempting “capturing the country” merely with quasi-Christian morals.

It is encouraging to hear Pastor Conrad’s focus on sending missionaries to other nations in need of churches.
