Adoniram Judson on Fervency in Prayer
August 22, 2008 – 5:28 pm
“A travailing spirit, the throes of a great burdened desire, belongs to prayer. A fervency strong enough to drive away sleep, which devotes and inflames the spirit, and which retires all earthly ties, all this belongs to wrestling, prevailing prayer. The Spirit, the power, the air, and food of prayer is in such a spirit.”
What a testimony from a man that God used to minister the gospel and plant churches for nearly 40 years in Burma (modern day Myanmar), write a Burmese-English dictionary and a Burmese grammar, formulate the first Baptist association in America, translate the Bible into Burmese, and stir the hearts of 19th century American believers to serve as senders and goers.
